ABOUT ME

Hi, my name is Baxter Miller, I am a senior in Environmental Product Design at CU and am an avid consumer of art and design.

My philosophy for art in the context of design is creating something that is visually beautiful but also very functional. To me this is the highest form of art, finding harmony between form and function. Many of my most recent projects start as many sketches and then result in a model or sculpture made of chipboard, wood, and other materials. Although art through design is my favorite, I also enjoy creating art through pen and ink drawings, and more recently incorporating alcohol markers into my drawings.

My interest in digital art began as I learned about modern graphic design. More and more digital illustration is finding its way into graphic design, whether it be on a movie poster, packaging, or digitally on a website. To help become a more rounded designer I am excited to become more familiar with digital art tools and figure out how to create art digitally as well as physically.

One of my biggest inspirations right now is Frank Stephenson, who designed many of the most iconic cars of the last 3 decades. His projects include the original BMW X5, the McLaren P1, Ferrari F430, the 2000 Mini Cooper S, and many more. His cars are so striking that you would be forgiven for thinking they are just sculptures for your viewing pleasure. However, there is an incredible interwoven relationship between the aesthetics of the car and the functionality of every single body panel and seam.
